Austin, Texas – The Place Where Your $$$ Goes Further

by Goodlife on October 27, 2008

On October 15th, Realtor.com published an article in their Daily Real Estate News listing the top US cities where your dollar bill goes furthest. It should come as no surprise that Austin, Texas was in the # 1 slot. Cities were selected based on a calculation by Forbes magazine that compared a city’s median home price to its median household income and also factored in projected job growth.Once the ratios and calculations were run, Austin ranked #1 for cities where residents get the most for their money. At the GoodLife Team, where we regularly track the Austin TX MLS and report on the Austin Texas Real Estate Market, this ranking comes as no surprise. (Be sure to check out Garry’s monthly market statistics on our blog. You can subscribe to one of our RSS feeds to be notified when new data is posted.) I have personally been living in Austin for over three years, and following are a few of the things that I think make Austin a great place to live.
  1. Austin is located in Travis County which is one of the fastest growing Counties in the Nation. This creates job growth and more income for the residents.
  2. Home appreciation has been on a steady rise. Unlike other parts of the country, where home appreciate dramatically increased, setting them up for a larger fall out, we have managed our Austin Real Estate Sales growth.
  3. Geographically, Austin is a great place to live. We have sunny weather throughout much of the year, allowing residents to the Lakes, the Hill Country, and Urban Austin.
  4. It’s the Live Music Capital of the world – no matter what kind of music you like, Austin has it!
  5. Austin is Tech savvy. Austin is dedicated to new innovations and technology. Because of this, we attract a lot of high-tech companies into Austin which contributes to job growth.
  6. Austin is environmentally conscious. We are constantly developing green programs and building greener homes to improve our overall well-being and help the environment.
If you’ve been looking for a great place to live, where you can get a great value for your dollar, come visit and experience all that Austin has to offer. You may end up staying much longer than anticipated! And, if you live in Austin, I’d love to hear what you think makes Austin such a great city to live in. Feel free to post your comments.
