Craving for a great cup of coffee near Brentwood? The Monkey Nest Organic Coffee & Bakery can satisfy your cravings!
When I entered the Monkey Nest, first thing I noticed was the jam-packed people in the place on what I thought was a quiet, Monday afternoon. There were different kinds of people; young and old, people of different cultures, students, businessmen and women, book readers, game players, —even a family or two. Almost every table was topped with a laptop or tablet computer, enjoying free Wi-Fi for all. Sometimes live bands perform in the Monkey Nest; however, performances were rare and occasionally, during South by Southwest (SXSW).
Koros Derakhshani, owner of Monkey Nest, has lived in the Austin area for over 30 years; he opened Monkey Nest in February of 2011. This cozy corner coffee shop has met great success. Not only do they serve environmentally and socially conscious organic coffee, they also strive to use local and natural ingredients in the food items they offer.
Monkey Nest fits right at home with its neighbors in Brentwood and Allandale with its hip and relaxed atmosphere. Meanwhile, anyone can rent their back room for $25 of which you will be given credit toward your food and beverage purchases.
When asked what he likes most about Brentwood, Koros said that even though Austin underwent exceptional change during his 30 years of stay, the area has kept the same sort of “hippy, funky Austin feel”. I agreed and I love this place. And oh, did I mention that it was a damn good cup of coffee?
Area resident Virginia Drake agrees that the Monkey Nest is her favorite place for coffee. She loves the way it fits right in with the eclectic neighborhood in where she lives. Recent University of Texas graduates Waiaki Wang and his friends are true-blue supporters of Monkey Nest’s use of organic and fair trade coffee. Moreover, the fact that it is close enough to their campus, they come here to study (good luck on your GREs!) but far enough that it isn’t swamped with students.
This is a new favorite of mine; I almost don’t want to share, but of course I will — it’s just too good not to! Enjoy – and if you happen to see me in there, please say “hello” and I might just treat you to the best cup of coffee in Austin.
